Floating Piano Factory was founded by Eathan Janney, who grew up in Chicago — Rogers Park, Wicker Park, St. Ignatius College Prep. He built his first tuning practice here before leaving for New York in 2009. During those Chicago years, he studied with the staff piano technicians at Northwestern University and developed the precision-first approach that defines the company today.
He left to build something larger. Floating Piano Factory became New York's trusted piano care authority — featured in The Wall Street Journal, serving private homes, serious musicians, and institutional clients across the city. More than 25 years of professional tuning experience. A company built to a standard, not just a price point.

The Floating Piano Factory Apprenticeship Program
Piano technology is one of the last skilled trades with no formal apprenticeship infrastructure. We built one. Floating Piano Factory operates a structured technician development program — progressing from Apprentice through Craftsman to Artisan — that combines hands-on field training with technical curriculum and quality standards developed over decades of professional practice.
